Why so many
people in Louisiana
are uninsured
-
1
You looked once and closed the tab.
The first number you saw was the full price with no assistance applied.
-
2
You are one bad week from a bill you cannot pay.
Medicaid and the Marketplace are two programs with two income lines.
-
3
You are one emergency away from a significant medical bill
Uninsured, an emergency room visit is billed at full price.
-
4
You do not know if your doctor takes it.
Most people find out at the front desk.
-
5
The paperwork stopped you.
One confusing question about income or household size closes the window.
-
6
You missed the window last time.
Marketplace enrollment is open for a set period each year.
Here is what every plan already gives you.
You will see plans advertised on free preventive visits, free annual checkups, and pediatric dental and vision. Every compliant Marketplace plan already covers in network preventive care with nothing owed at the visit, and pediatric dental and vision are required benefits, sometimes through a separate dental plan.
That is federal law.
No carrier deserves credit for it.
Four things actually differ between Louisiana carriers, and they are the four we go through on the call: which doctors and hospitals are in the network, what a regular visit and a specialist visit cost you, which tier your prescriptions land on, and what the deductible does before any of that applies.
AmeriHealth Caritas Next competes on those four in your parish. Whether it wins for your household is what the call is for.

Check if my doctor is covered
1Is AmeriHealth Caritas Next the same as my Medicaid plan?
No. AmeriHealth Caritas has covered Louisiana families through Medicaid for years, so the name is familiar. AmeriHealth Caritas Next is a different product: a Marketplace plan with a monthly premium, which a tax credit based on your income often lowers. Louisiana Medicaid is free coverage for people under its income limit. If you already have Louisiana Medicaid, an agent can tell you in two minutes whether this page applies to you.
2I have never heard of this carrier. Who are they?
AmeriHealth Caritas Next is the individual Marketplace brand of AmeriHealth Caritas, a managed care company with long standing Medicaid and community health roots in Louisiana. Size matters less than the network in your parish, so an agent pulls up the actual hospital and doctor list before you enroll.
3Is my doctor in the network?
We check by name. Give us your top two or three doctors and we look each one up in the carrier directory while you are on the phone. If they are not in it, we compare the other Louisiana carriers.
4What does competitively priced actually mean for my household?
It depends on your age, your household size, your income and your parish. Premiums vary by plan, carrier, service area, age and financial assistance eligibility. We run your numbers first, then show you where AmeriHealth Caritas Next lands next to the other carriers you can buy.
5How much does your help cost?
Nothing. ACA premiums are filed with the state, so the price is the same whether you enroll with us or by yourself. The carrier pays us, you do not.
6Why not go straight to the carrier or to HealthCare.gov?
You can. Going through us is free, we compare several Louisiana carriers instead of one, and you get a named agent who is still there at renewal and if your doctor network changes. We are a licensed independent agency and not a government website.
7Is AmeriHealth Caritas Next available in my parish?
For 2026, AmeriHealth Caritas Next sells Marketplace plans in Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberville and West Baton Rouge parishes. Its 2027 parishes are published before enrollment opens on November 1, so we check your ZIP code first.
Remember: If you had a qualifying life change in the last 60 days, like losing other coverage, having a baby, getting married or moving, you may be able to enroll now without waiting for open enrollment.
What a Madrinas agent does on the call
-
1
We run your eligibility
Household income, household size, and how you file. That decides whether you are looking at Louisiana Medicaid or a Marketplace plan with financial assistance. If Medicaid is the right door, we say so. It pays us nothing and it is still the right answer.
-
2
We compare the carriers in your parish
Your doctors looked up by name, your prescriptions checked against each formulary with the tier, AmeriHealth Caritas Next beside the alternatives in the same view.
-
3
We enroll you on the call and stay with you after.
Your agent has a name and a direct line, and renewals come back to that person.
-
Result, Medicaid
You likely qualify for Louisiana Medicaid. An agent will tell you what to do next. It costs you nothing either way.
-
Result, subsidized
You likely qualify for a Marketplace plan with financial assistance. An agent will show you what that means for your household.
-
Result, unsubsidized
You likely do not qualify for financial assistance this year, but you still have options. We’ll compare AmeriHealth Caritas Next with other available plans and help you find coverage that fits your needs and budget.
Real families, real coverage.
